Projects and Sound Samples
Below you will find just a short list of the artists working at Orchard Rise. You'll also find links to some of their own web sites where you can find out more info. We hope you enjoy the samples provided, and encourage you to contact Orchard Rise to find out more about the wonderful talent in the south-west. The samples are MP3 files, each about 30 seconds long and around 500k in size. Bleaudaylia Bleaudaylia, aka Tony and Tam, are well known performers
and promoters of live music in Portland. With a distinctive percussive
style influenced by Sigur Ros, Tori Amos, Damien Rice, Fiona Apple and Radiohead, they have already recorded a number of tracks at Orchard Rise
profiling their talents. They're back in the studio right now working on new tracks, with supporting funding from Glenelg Shire. Check out more at the Bleaudaylia Myspace site.
Fever sample Sparks Will Fly Indeed they will ! Good preparation is essential for studio work, and Sparks were well rehearsed and had all their vocal parts sorted and ready to go before they arrived. Sparks worked "live" and all in on the instrumentals, then laid down the lead, backing and "scream" vocals after. Watch out for these boys - they play hard.
The Change sample Latest update ! LPS are back in the studio, working on their EP. Check out more at the Sparks Will Fly Myspace site.. David Tognon David has stories to tell, and his songs flow with a sensibility and depth that goes straight to the heart. Featured recently on ABC Victoria's Drive program, David has an extensive repertoire that has great audience appeal. Playing regularly around the south-west, his performances at Portland's regular "Roving Ear" nights are always a drawcard. Dave's work combines parts recorded at Orchard Rise with work of his own, and shows what can be done with careful planning. Watch out for more from Dave coming soon...
Skipper's Dream sample Esther Lamb Esther (shown at right) has recently completed a 5-track EP at Orchard Rise funded by both Arts Victoria and the Glenelg Shire Arts program. With a smooth, polished vocal style, and
supported by talented local artists like Joel Roberts (guitars) and Cary
Hemphill (drums), the recordings provide a taste of the extensive list
of tunes that Esther continues to expand.
Mr Pretender sample Check out more about Esther, and buy her tunes online at www.estherlamb.com. Latest update ! Esther won 3rd place in the 2006 Australian Songwriters Association competition in the Folk and Acoustic category with Secret Heart, recorded at Orchard Rise. The Latest Pyramid Scheme Like your music loud ? These guys were full on from the moment they stepped through the door at Orchard Rise. TLPS give it all - just listen to Carey Hemphill's lead vocals. A "solid" four piece sound deserves some solid gear to record on, and we're pleased to say it survived and is here waiting for your next floor shaking project. Check out more at the Latest Pyramid Scheme Myspace site.
Imminent End sample Phil Oakley Phil writes songs from the heart, and performs
with a rootsy style that is raw, powerful and free from the boundaries
of the contemporary scene. Together with brother Lindon on Tabla's, their
recordings at Orchard Rise document Phil's journey through life, and provide
a permanent record of his ideas for future generations of the family.
Old Blue Levis sample John Coverdale Describing himself as a "bedroom guitarist",
there is nothing sleepy about John. His original tunes, relaxed vocals
and expert acoustic guitar work are a great example of the hidden talent
that Orchard Rise is helping to discover in Portland.
Rainbow Colors sample Bec Mackay Bec is a relative newcomer to Portland,
arriving in 2004. She is no newcomer to Christian song writing and performing
though, and has brought an album-worth of original tunes to Orchard Rise
for recording. Orchard Rise is assisting with arranging and performing
to help Bec share her ideas with a broader audience, that they might know
something of the personal relationship she has with her Saviour.
